Girl-Boy follows four masculine-presenting women—Tinuke, Fred, Ella, and Lara—navigating life in Nigeria’s rigid gender system. Through moments of rejection, resilience, and self-affirmation, they confront social and familial pressures, police violence, and prejudice. Each woman redefines femininity on her own terms: embracing identity, independence, and strength in a society that demands conformity. A moving portrait of courage, defiance, and self-love.

Ajay Abalaka is a photographer, filmmaker, and musician exploring identity, heritage, and marginalised experiences in Nigeria. They hold a degree in Art History and Film Studies from the University of Kent, and their work spans documentary, experimental film, and multimedia storytelling.

Their latest project, Girl-Boy, is a documentary examining gender expression in Nigeria. Through their production company and creative studio, LineShapeVolume, Ajay continues to develop projects that challenge narratives and expand queer representation in Nigerian storytelling.
